The world is continually going through changes. Just look at how much society evolved in the past 2000 years. If you think about it, the advancement was slow for centuries since technological advancements had not been dramatic until now.
About 600+ years ago, Gutenberg invented the printing press, and that was revolutionary at that time. Although writing already existed during ancient times, the printing press is a fantastic invention because it can produce writing that has a definite type form. The modern time can now produce books through a digital platform which can be downloaded.
But what can we expect in the future if technology has evolved so much especially in the past 60-70 years?
How Did Technology Shape, the Future of Humans
-
Work Force
The most affected industry when it comes to technological advancements in the workforce. As robots replace the capability of humans when it comes to traditional jobs such as production and service, there will be a bigger problem at hand in the future regarding human employment.
According to a study conducted by the McKinsey Global Institute, robots could replace 40–75 million jobs worldwide by 2025. This is an alarming prediction which can be possible.
Nonetheless, technology may end the burden of many tasks that are needed to be completed on a daily basis. These tasks can be tedious that we don’t have the time or passion for completing it or too difficult to assess and our intelligence may not be sufficient to provide answers. With the rise of AIs (artificial intelligence), this will no longer be a problem in the very near future.
Regarding robots, production will be easier when it comes to manufacturing processes. Since these tasks are mechanical, it can be easily programmed into microchips and production will work 24/7.
-
Health and Medical Industry
On the other hand, one of the most significant thing that we can look forward to is the technological advancements in the medical world. Considering that most cancers are still untreatable at this point, however, it may change in the coming years.
We are now witnessing how robots can be used for delicate surgeries during operations. Laser technology is also being utilized not just in operations but also under the field of skincare.
If technology can be applied in the health industry on a deeper scale, it might allow people to live longer and have a better quality of living. It will help further in improving the longevity of human lives.
-
Publishing and Printing
As what was mentioned earlier, ebooks are now a thing. Publishing materials online take no time at all. Even a young child can publish a book under Wattpad, Kindle or other platforms.
3D printing is also happening. From small objects to big projects. From reading materials, toys and even food, 3D printing is now possible in various shape, form, and kind. Digital printing is easy with the use of a smartphone and a portable printer, instant photo available in a matter of minutes.
-
Music and Film
Creating sounds, songs and music can now be done outside a studio even without using a real musical instrument. Apps and software are available online and can be purchased or downloaded for free.
Create your music with a smartphone or a tablet is possible. Creating a film or video can be highly sophisticated with the use of green screens, CGI animation, and drawing tablets. It is not that difficult to create location or scenarios that are realistic. Movies like Transformers, Jurassic Park and Marvel Movies are far more different more than 20 years ago.
Will the Technological Advancements Satisfy Human Needs
It is still a debatable issue whether or not it can. On the other hand, we had to accept that technology provided help and brought a more modern world that we are living in right now.
Being able to connect with the world with just a tap, a click or a flick of the finger is simply amazing. In all honesty, we can never deny that this future that we are living in has made many things possible for us. Traveling is no longer an issue since people who have money can even go to the moon.
Technology has made things smarter. A floor cleaner, for instance, can move around the house without any human intervention. A smart car can anticipate an accident and prevent it from happening. A drone that can fly high up in the air and capture scenic videos.
Interaction with people from different countries is now possible through video calls with the use of a laptop, tablet or smartphone.
And the most controversial technological advancement is, the microchipping of humans. Microchipping allows you to enter a facility without a key or an electronic card, purchase any products without the use of real money, store vital and personal information about an individual through computers.
Should we be afraid of technology and how will it be used in the future
What do you think will happen if robots had taken the place of humans? Will there be jobs available? Will humans be a second class citizen or workforce? Will robots rule the world? These are valid questions that we may be asking right now. We still can’t tell what the end will be or what the future holds.
It may seem exciting that we are experiencing all these conveniences that we have. Having a Siri on your iPhone. With Alexa and Google home living in your house and keeping you company.
The question may still be, how connected are you to reality? It seems that technology had taken over our lives and we can never tell what the future generation will be regarding the relationship and relating to another human being.
In The End
It may seem that life become easier, faster and well connected since we were introduced into this new level of technology; the digital side of technology. But when will this end? Or will this ever have an ending? Those are the questions that are yet to be answered. Until then, we can still say that technology has not yet satisfied human needs. The future might be more different than how it is today.
